From Rubbish with Love - Review (June 2015)
Thame’s young theatre company, CatKids, is going from strength to strength. With this, their second summer musical, written specially with the youngsters in mind, last Sunday saw the Players Theatre transformed into a graffiti, rubbish-strewn, Banksy-inspired ROT Headquarters.
The evil Samantha Sewer was excellently captured by Annabella Fletcher who, with her team of Little Rotters, the youngest members of the group aged 3 to 5 years, is on her way to pollute the country. Luckily the MOD is on to her, and M (Charlotte Carpenter) manages to tempt their best secret agent, WC1 himself: Green, James Green, suavely played by Logan Phyall-Forbes, out of retirement. Feeling cold and tired, having reversed climate change, and invented the word recycle, Green is lured back into the field when he realises who is behind the foul plan and plans to flush her out of her underground cess pit.
With a topical and funny script, and a host of identifiable characters, all the company were involved every step of the way. With the assistance of the Green Gang, Felix Litter (Oscar Boddy) and Louella Rustbucket (Abi Newbrook, or Lou for short!), some great songs, and dance routines, the young cast gave us energy, enthusiasm and fun every step of the way. Alexis Cheesman and her team put on a great show, and the audience loved the jokes and the professionalism of the production.
Well done to them all.
