Welcome to CatKids
who are we?
CatKids is a small, family run, independent group with years of experience and a winning formula, catering for the desire among young people to get up on a stage and perform. The skills learnt from their weekly lessons - confidence, teamwork, problem solving, communication skills, public speaking, creativity, improvisation – will stand them in good stead for whatever they do. Aimed at children aged between 4 and 16, the emphasis is on fun. We feel that every child benefits from the experience of going onstage and performing to an audience.
where are we based?
CatKids is based in Thame, Oxfordshire where lessons take place every Saturday morning, except certain school holiday dates, at the Youth Hall, Lord Williams Lower School, Towersey Road, Thame OX9 3NW. Each of our productions are staged to the public at Thame ‘Players Theatre’. There are also classes in Watlington on Wednesday. Please see the Watlington page on this website. We have been established for over three years and each year put on a Pantomime and a summer Musical at the local Theatre in Thame.
what do we do?
The children learn acting skills, through games and scripts, and master basic dance routines, and songs. The weekly classes result in two productions each year, a Pantomime and a Summer Show, and these are specially written for the young cast by Mike Hurst, a well-known script writer for ‘Hurst Children’s Theatre Group’. There is no doubt that learning simple skills such as how to project your voice, breathe properly and overcome nerves is extremely important for a child’s confidence. Through their experience with CatKids, children learn important life skills - compromise, perseverance, patience, respect. The wonderful opportunity to perform their productions in the environment of a real theatre is an exciting and powerful vehicle for teaching all of these things.
